I've been working on GUI (Graphical User Interface) of the "Power Up Selection" portion of the game. Since I'm using MVC, it was challenging trying to find out how to communicate power up information to the UI and then to the player's inventory. Ultimately, the player owns all power up definitions. The GUI (MVC) Controller grabs the player instance via a "Player Service" class (a global service), then uses the player to ask for available/known power up information. Then the view uses this information to create buttons and callbacks. In any case, here is a gif of the resulting GUI.
Ok, break time over. I need to make some games! I've been working for a week on my new one. This was also a project (meaning no chance of publish) with the primary focus of learning Code Control and if its worth making a full game with it. However, I'm starting to like this title. So I'm making some plans for it. This one is code name: "Blox". It's a match 3 game, targeting mobile, with local multiplayer capabilities. There "might" be a PC release later, but that will determine if I decide to integrate a single player option. Now, it's time to draw up a design doc so this thing has a focus and doesn't get out of control! Play a Very Limited Build of Blox here!
I've taken a temporary break from game development on my free time. My daughter has most of my attention when I get home and I love spending that time with her. When she gets a little older, I'll jump right back in where I left off! Until then, I decided to add a Dev Corner page to the site that I will continue to post my recommended resources and game development tips. This is a great source for a new-comer as well as intermediate developer. I'm basically putting together a site I wish I would have run into when I was younger. I hope you enjoy, and please do let me know if there is a great resource that I didn't cover that you find useful! Or, just shoot me a line if you have any questions. Project Glow was finished and I consider it a success. It was used as a means to learn Unity's mech anim, PlayMaker, and the Particle Playground system. Now I'm starting "Project Souls" which is a Dark Souls inspired project. With this project, I'm learning Unity's Navigation Mesh as well as enemy AI in a 3D environment. I'll also be implementing a number of magic spells to use against the enemy. See the Developer's Blog for updates on the project.
Obviously the site is live if you are reading this. I actually needed an excuse to create the first post, so I felt that this is as good as any. Feel free to check out the Projects page to see the latest game projects I've been working on. I recently posted my first Android app to Google Play and Android. Babyworks is a simple color recognition learning app for 6+ month old children using colorful fireworks that are triggered on touch input. Visit the product page on this site to play the full version in the browser to see what it's all about. Feel free to contact me for any reason. Contact information can be found on the About page of this site.
